I and my partner just finished coding a spell check application in Java. We have used swing and JDBC for the same and I am really excited with the end result we have got. We were given 4 days to code and one day to test and debug. As expected, there were many small bugs in the code and one day was not even enough to debug the complete application. Anyhow we completed the application and now it’s ready to function.

Some of the errors were very simple while some took a lot of time in finding the source of the problem. In one case, we were getting redundant words when we click on spell check button. We spent like 3 hours trying to find the logical error which was causing the problem. And know what, it was caused due to some redundant entries in the database itself. That was one of the silliest mistake we made in the course of our development. I will now start working on internet application and I will posting them here as soon as I complete one. Anyway, I am writing this here on my blog is because I want to hear from those people who are on the same line. I would like to get some tips and tricks from the experts too. I have been doing some PHP stuff for the last one year and now, I just got my hands dirty with Java. I am trying to learn it. In fact, I have to learn it because I joined a software company and they have put me in the Java domain. Anyway, the transition is not very difficult but I have to learn a lot of things here. Java is not a very difficult programming language. But the API is really huge and knowing about all of it will be a difficult task.

Anyway, I, along with one of my friend here in the office have just completed designing a standalone spell checker as well word lookup application. I am really happy with the final product, specially the GUI. I love Java swing and I am really comfortable working with it. I will try some more stuff now and if I get along nicely, I will add a complete section for Java Programs on my blog as well. Till then, let’s wait and see!
